For many people, going out and about when the weather turns
colder has as much appeal as a root
The fireplace in our sitting room
canal. But you can find a lot of wonderful
things to do and see in Lancaster County when winter is upon us. Resist the urge to hibernate, and put these favorites of mine on your to do list…
Give yourself some “you” time. – We can arrange for you to
enjoy an in-room massage at the Historic Smithton Inn,
or you can relax and rejuvenate at one of the nearby day spas.
Shop! – The outlets (like Rockvale and Tanger) offer lots of post-holiday deals, and
of course, you’ll find many local gift shops with unique items near our B&B.
Drive the covered bridges. – No trip to Lancaster County is
complete without exploring the covered bridges of the area.
They’re an iconic piece of our PA Dutch heritage!
Take in some live local theater productions.
– Year-round, you’ll find quality performances of plays and musicals—both
classic and avant garde.
Check out the auction houses. – Two of my favorites are Horst Auction and Morphy Auctions. You never know what treasures are awaiting.
Hit the trail on a nature hike. - For all you intrepid
tourists, visit the Middle Creek Wildlife
Management area to see the snow geese mid-migration or venture to Chickies Rock County Park
to get a breathtaking view from the overlook.
Dine out in style. – With fewer visitors to the area in
winter, you have the perfect opportunity to treat yourself to the fabulous fare
at restaurants where it’s difficult to get reservations during the peak season.
Some downtown Lancaster hot spots worth trying include: Fenz, The Belvedere Inn, Checkers Bistro, and Carr’s Restaurant.
Book a weekend (or an
overnight stay during the week) with us! – Relax and warm up by our
fireplace and/or kick back in your room and enjoy one of the many movies from our extensive
collection of DVDs. We have every Academy Award winning “Best Picture” made since
1979 and more. From chick flicks to horror movies to films for kids to
thrillers, we have something for everyone.
As you can see, it’s easy to warm up to winter in Lancaster
County. With so many ways to spend your time, you just may decide to make your
visit at this time of year an ongoing tradition.
