Baseball in Lancaster County

Come Visit PA CLUTCH Country!

I should have known… a “top 10” list wasn’t going to cut it! No sooner did I hit “Publish” on last week’s blog, that even MORE great reasons to visit Lancaster County this spring came to mind. Over the next few days I’ll share my additions, and keep in mind that there are probably MANY more fantastic reasons I haven’t even thought of… YET!

I’m a bit embarrassed that I forgot to mention this one, since one of the Barnstormers’ coaches was actually staying with us while he found more permanent digs! OF COURSE, Spring spells the start of America’s favorite sport…baseball, and the Smithton Inn has some great baseball close by!

In Lancaster City, you can catch a game, in a small-stadium setting, that won’t break the bank. The Lancaster Barnstormers are an independent minor league team who have called Clipper Magazine Stadium home since 2005. Many former major leaguers play for the Barnstormers on their way back to the majors from injury, so the quality of play is terrific. Games are an ‘event’ as well, culminating in fireworks displays following night games.

Also nearby are the Reading Phillies, AA affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, the Harrisburg Senators, AA affiliate of the Washington Nationals, and the York Revolution, another independent team.

But if major league action is more your speed, you’re still in luck! We’re only 1 hr. 15 min. from Citizens Bank Park, where you can catch the Philadelphia Phillies!

As you can see, the Smithton Inn is perfectly situated for a ‘baseball vacation’ where you can take in the action, compare the stadiums and quality of play, and simply enjoy this beautiful part of the country. Maybe they should start calling this PA CLUTCH Country?
