Noah W. Kreider and his wife Mary R. Hershey moved to Hershey’s parents' farm in 1935 with their two sons. This farm had first been settled in 1739 and offered a significant portion of land. The operation began with 102 acres of land for vegetables, fruits, and other produce, a dozen dairy cows, and 200 chickens. An adjoining farm was purchased later on to create the official Kreider Farms operation. In 1972, they began processing, bottling, and selling their own milk and making their own ice cream. They also became the largest egg producer in the state of Pennsylvania. Today, third generation Kreiders still own and operate the farm! About 450 people are employed in maintaining this huge production, which covers over 2,800 acres. The philosophy of Kreider Farms emphasizes high quality, hard work, and willingness to take risks while also demonstrating moral and ethical values.
The Kreider Farms tour cost varies depending on your preferences. For a trolley or bus tour, tickets are $12. For a tour with your personal vehicle, it is just $10. If you are interested in observing the Kreider Farms silo, then just pay $8. This will give you a brilliant view of farming activity from the Kreider Farms observation tower. You must book an advanced reservation, however, to visit!
